Well it's been a strange old year! Thank you so much for all of your understanding and patience with the cancellations and (attempted!) rescheduling! We still managed to do our famous Christmas Wreath workshops, albeit in a slightly different way to normal! An amazing 251 were sent out and I really hope you all enjoyed making them! I am hopeful with the news of the vaccines we will be able to start holding events at The Old Barn again in 2021 and the listings will be released in January. So keep a look out on here, social media or sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know!

We were very sad that we couldn’t hold our usual Christmas Wreath Workshops at The Old Barn... but like everything this year, we have found a way! Over 160 wreath making kits were sent out last week and here are just a few of the beautiful wreaths that were made, following the online tutorial. Fantastic!
I know it’s not the same as joining us at The Old Barn, but sadly, the first week of Wreath Workshops have fallen foul to the National Lockdown... But don't despair! If you would still like to make your own wreath I have decided to produce some “Make at Home” boxes which will include everything you need to make your own beautiful wreath. Perhaps you couldn't get booked on the original dates, now is your chance to join in!
The kits will be available to be picked up from The Old Barn or my home in Radcliffe on Trent, or I can arrange delivery for a small fee, or if there are a group of you I could deliver a few to one house for you to distribute. I am planning on doing a live online tutorial in the evening on Friday 27th November which you can join on your own, or with friends. Why not make a night of it and grab a drink and set up your own Zoom call with your friends and have me playing on a shared screen?! I will show you what to do and be available to answer questions! You will also have your own instruction sheet and access to the tutorial at a later date if you cannot make the 27th. If you would like to purchase a box they are £20 each and there are 2 colour schemes to choose from, Snowy Whites or Red Berries. Please follow the link below to place your order: https://forms.gle/jTMB1ZDVZ8QXdDVe6 Alternatively, if you would just like a wreath, I can make these to order and will deliver them w/c 7th December, just drop me an email: [email protected] The National Lockdown means we will now be closed until Wednesday 2nd December (inclusive), atleast, when we may or may not be able to go ahead with some of our Christmas Wreath Workshops...
Not knowing what the future holds is especially frustrating for a planner like me!! But rest assured I am already thinking of ideas such as alternative dates the following week for those booked on earlier courses (pre 3rd December) and offering "Make at Home Boxes" and a live online session. If you can bear with me, I am going to give it a couple of weeks and let the dust settle and then start to try and formulate a plan for various scenarios... I feel very lucky in the current environment that we have been able to hold all 10 of our family pumpkin picking and carving sessions at the farm. We have endured every weather but everyone seems to have had a lovely time... probably helped by the Pumpkin Spiced Latte and Hot Chocolate! Our pumpkins this year have been spaced themed with beautiful starry skies and bespoke rockets! I hope they lit up lots of homes this Halloween!
We held 2 lovely socially distant workshops this weekend and all of the participants went home with a beautiful handcrafted willow wreath, adorned with Autumnal foliage, aswell as a tummy full of delicious Autumnal treats!
We had something a little different at The Old Barn this weekend, we joined forces with The Coco Collective to host a Yoga Retreat for the day. The participants enjoyed freshly squeezed apple juice and a seasonal salad as well as a foraging talk and tour inbetween 2 yoga classes.
The 1st of September marks the beginning of Autumn and time to think about this season's activities at The Barn. The Summer Events at The Barn, under the new government guidelines, have gone really well and so we will be using the same format for this season's courses, where possible.
We have lots of lovely Pumpkins growing in the field just waiting to be picked so why not book onto one of our courses over the half term holidays? You don't just get to pick one here though, you also get to scoop it out and create a beautiful world inside of it, complete with lights! So it is all ready to take out and display! Also on offer will be some delicious Autumnal treats for the adults and children alike! We still also have a few spaces left on Saturday 3rd October if you wish to come and make a "Forever" Autumn Wreath. Further details of all of these courses and the links to book them are available on the website. Like many businesses we have been significantly impacted by the Coronavirus Pandemic and have been shut since March. As restrictions ease we are preparing to re-open The Barn to families over the Summer Holidays for our popular children's workshops.
Numbers will be limited (a maximum of 10 family groups) and I have initially offered places to people who were unable to attend the events that were cancelled at Easter. We will spend as much time as we can outdoors in the fresh air and will of course be observing social distancing. We have also implemented additional hygiene stations to make it as safe as we can for you all. We do not yet feel in a position to offer any adult classes but I am planning to hold some in September, more details to follow soon. Further to this I have already had some enquiries regarding Christmas wreath making! I will release the dates and open booking for these in the first week of September, along with the Pumpkin Workshops. I hope to see you all really soon! Stay safe! x I have been trying out lots of different crafts at home over the past few weeks and I thought some of you might like to join in as we are not quite ready to open our doors just yet! Re-usable Beeswax Wraps One product I am very keen on are reusable beeswax wraps. They are a great, environmentally friendly alternative to cling film, and they look pretty cool too! I have (I think!) perfected a recipe combining beeswax with Jojobo oil and pine resin to create some melt at home blocks which should make it super easy for you! In the kit you will also receive 3 large pieces of fabric and 3 small and all the tools and bits you should need to carry out this very satisfying and useful craft! Kids can get involved too, with adult supervision. For ideas on how to use the wraps see the links at the bottom of this page. Fabric Bunting This would be a perfect craft for children as it is super easy but the end product is also very pretty! In your kit you will receive 12 "flags" in a mix of pastel colours and pinks and 3 metres of rope. Plus a built in "needle" (not sharp!) to help with the threading. Kits are priced as follows: Reusable beeswax wrap kit (makes 3 large and 3 small) - £10 inc postage - SOLD OUT Fabric bunting kit (makes 3m with 12 flags) - £8 inc postage - SOLD OUT More information on how to use your wraps!
